# Import an existing study

Bring in a Qualtrics export, PDF, or Word questionnaire and rebuild it as a QuestionPunk survey.

## Steps

### 1. Click Import an existing study

From the **Start a study** grid on Home, click **Import an existing study**.

### 2. Upload your file

Upload a Qualtrics **.qsf** export, a **PDF**, a **Word** document, or plain text.

### 3. Let AI rebuild it

The AI reads the file and rebuilds it in the editor, keeping the original questions, wording, answer options, and order. It converts anything QuestionPunk supports natively (scales, matrices, branching) and lists anything it could not carry over so you can decide what to do about it.

### 4. Review and finish setup

If the file couldn't be read, QuestionPunk still creates a draft — open it and attach the file there, or describe the study instead. Otherwise, review the rebuilt survey, make any adjustments, and publish as usual.

## Details

Importing is a fast path for teams migrating research from another platform or digitizing a paper/Word questionnaire, instead of rebuilding it question by question.

The AI does not invent questions that are not in the uploaded file — it rebuilds what is there and flags anything it could not convert automatically.
