Upload a transcript, check speakers and participant roles, and add reviewed human evidence to a research project.

## Before you start

You need Research projects access and edit access to an active project. Obtain the participants’ consent for recording and processing, including by AI services. Prepare a text, VTT, SRT or DOCX transcript up to 4 MB.

## Steps

### 1. Open the import dialog

In the project, choose **Recordings → Add a transcript**. Select the file and optionally give it a name in the project. Plain text can use `Name: text` lines.

### 2. Confirm consent and upload

Read and confirm the consent attestation, then choose **Upload and check speakers**. Uploading starts the review step; the transcript does not count as evidence yet.

### 3. Check every speaker

Read the transcript preview. Assign each speaker as **Participant: evidence**, **Interviewer: context, not evidence**, or **Other speaker: context**. Check unlabeled lines carefully because they attach to the previous speaker.

### 4. Set display names and the date

Use **Name in the project** for the alias shown in answers, citations and exports. The optional real name is retained on the transcript. Set the interview date and check the participant and interviewer turn counts.

### 5. Finish importing

Choose **Import transcript** after reviewing the speakers. Open the imported transcript and verify the roles and text. Use **Edit speakers** if you need to correct assignments.

## Details

This workflow imports existing transcript text. Audio upload is a separate workflow and may have different availability, language and review requirements. An alias changes how a speaker is named in the project; inspect the transcript text itself for identifying details before sharing.

## Check the result

The reviewed transcript is imported, with participant speech treated as evidence and interviewer or other speech as context.

## If something goes wrong

If the upload is unavailable, check project access, edit permission and archive status. If speakers are wrong, review labels and unlabeled continuation lines before completing the import. Deleting a transcript also removes the interview it added to the project, and findings that cited it show the citation as withheld.
