# Notifications and email preferences

Manage in-app notifications and control which email alerts you receive.

## Steps

### 1. View in-app notifications

Click the **bell icon** in the top navigation bar to open the notification dropdown. Unread notifications show a purple dot and the bell displays an unread count badge (up to 99+). Opening the dropdown marks all notifications as read.

### 2. Understand notification types

Eight notification types keep you informed: **Survey responses** (new responses received), **AI review** (survey review completed), **Survey analysis** (AI analysis finished), **Synthetic responses** (synthetic test run completed), **PPT export** (PowerPoint generation ready to download), **Survey generation** (AI survey generation completed), **Consultant report** (AI report generation finished), and [**Study notifications**](https://www.questionpunk.com/support/diary-studies) (invitations or reminders for a diary study wave failed to send). Team notifications (invites and access requests) also appear in the bell.

### 3. View all activity

Click **See all activity** at the bottom of the notification dropdown to open the full notifications page with your complete notification history.

### 4. Configure email preferences

Click the gear icon in the notification dropdown (or go to **Settings > Notification**) to manage three toggles: **Response Alerts** (in-app notifications for new survey responses), **Account Notices** (account updates and the daily response digest email), and **QuestionPunk Updates** (product tips and feature announcements by email).

### 5. Daily response digest email

When Account Notices are enabled, you receive a daily summary email listing surveys that received new responses in the last 24 hours. Only real responses are counted — synthetic test responses are excluded. The Response Alerts toggle separately controls whether these also appear as in-app notifications.

## Details

The notification bell in the top navigation bar provides real-time awareness of survey activity and completed background tasks. An unread count badge shows how many new notifications are waiting.

Notifications are generated when background tasks complete — AI analysis, synthetic test runs, PowerPoint exports, survey generation, and AI report generation — and to flag problems, like a diary study wave whose invitations or reminders failed to go out. Each notification includes a direct action link (e.g., "View report", "Download", "View responses") to jump straight to the result.

Three preference toggles in Settings control what you receive: **Response Alerts** enables in-app notifications when surveys get new responses, **Account Notices** covers account changes and includes the daily response digest email, and **QuestionPunk Updates** delivers product tips and feature announcements by email.

The daily response digest email is sent when Account Notices are enabled. It lists surveys that received new real responses in the last 24 hours — synthetic test responses are filtered out. The Response Alerts toggle separately controls the in-app notification for the same events.
