# Show choice results to respondents

Canonical page: https://www.questionpunk.com/support/shared-results

Share selected choice tallies after completion, or opt in to a sign-up table before answering.

Let respondents see how other people answered selected multiple-choice questions on the completion screen. Show counts only, or deliberately share names for a potluck, team vote, or sign-up.

## Before you start

Use a multiple-choice question with predefined answer choices. The setting is unavailable for quiz questions or questions that carry options forward. To share names, add a short-text name question anywhere in the same survey and tell respondents that their names will be visible. Completion screens for surveys containing scored quiz questions currently show quiz results instead of this tally.

### Video transcript

Enable Show results to respondents in the choice question's Settings. Keep counts only, or choose a short-text name question after telling people their names will be visible. Complete the published form to see the choice tally on the end screen.

## Steps

### 1. Enable results on the choice question

Open the multiple-choice question in **Build**. Open its **Settings**, expand **Scheduling and sign-ups**, and turn on **Show results to respondents**. Enable it separately for each question whose tally you want to share.

English interface · Enable the tally on the multiple-choice question you want to share.

### 2. Choose whether to show names

For counts only, leave **Show names from** at **No names** and **Show beside each name** at **None**. To show who chose each option, select the short-text question that asks for a name. It can appear anywhere in the same survey. The warning **Respondents will see these names.** means those selected answers are visible to other respondents; explain this before collecting them. You can also explicitly select a short-text detail, such as a dish, and a multiple-choice source for tags, such as allergens. Leave these unset if they should stay private.

English interface · Names are optional. Choose a name question only when respondents know their names will be shared.

### 3. Finish the published form and check the tally

Publish the form from **Share**, open its published link, and complete a real response. On the completion screen, check the enabled questions, option counts, and names if you selected them. A completion redirect takes people to the destination instead of this screen. **Test with AI** responses do not populate the tally.

English interface · A completed published form shows the enabled choice tally. Any names in this example are fictitious.

## Details

Only the questions you switch on are shared. The tally shows predefined answer choices; Other, None, and text typed into Other are not included.

For questions without sign-up limits, counts come from completed real responses. For a question with sign-up limits, counts also include unfinished responses while their choice is still held, and the tally shows remaining places or Full. Synthetic Test with AI responses do not count.

Displayed names use only the first word of names from completed real responses to the short-text question you selected. A response without a usable name can still count in the tally. Email-like entries and entries containing seven or more digits are omitted from names. At most 50 names appear per option, and long names are shortened to 40 characters, so the name list may be shorter than the count.

To keep names and details out of the shared tally, leave both sources unset. Only the name and detail answers you select and predefined choices from the selected tags question are shared by this feature. Unrelated free-text answers and questions you did not enable stay out of the tally.

For example, a potluck form could show Maya beside Salad and Leo beside Dessert. These are fictitious demo names. Use an explanation in your own form so people understand who can see their name and choice.

Optional: **Show before they answer** displays a sign-up table to anyone who opens the published survey link, before they answer. It shows first names and the details/tags you selected, so guests can see what is missing. This is a separate public-visibility choice; explain it to respondents and leave it off for private results. The visitor table is unavailable for password-protected surveys and outside configured opening/closing times.

## Check the result

People who complete the published form can see the current tally for the questions you enabled, with names only when you explicitly selected a name question.

## If something goes wrong

If no tally appears, check the question setting, confirm it is an ordinary multiple-choice question without a quiz answer key or carried-forward options, and finish a real response through the published link. Screen-outs and completion redirects do not show this results screen. If names are missing, check that the selected source is still a short-text question in this survey and was answered. Surveys containing scored quiz questions currently use their quiz results screen instead.
