# Survey display modes

## Steps

### 1. Open survey settings

Click the **Settings** button in the survey editor to access display mode options.

### 2. Choose a display mode

**Chat** (default): Conversational interface where questions appear as chat messages with AI-powered follow-ups. Best for qualitative research and engaging respondents.
**Sequential**: One question per screen with forward/back navigation. Clean and focused.
**Traditional**: Classic form layout with all questions visible on one page. Familiar for quantitative surveys.

### 3. Preview and test

Preview your survey in the selected mode to confirm the experience matches your research goals. You can switch modes at any time before publishing.

## Details

Chat mode is the default and most distinctive QuestionPunk experience. Questions appear as a conversation, and AI follow-ups feel natural.

Sequential mode presents one question at a time with clear navigation, ideal for longer quantitative surveys.

Traditional mode shows all questions on one page, similar to conventional survey tools. Use this when respondents need to review or change answers easily.
