Best AI-moderated interview tools in 2026: 8 compared

We checked every price and feature on the vendor’s own site that day. QuestionPunk is our product. We list it first and say where it falls short.

The short answer

Eight tools that run AI-moderated interviews: QuestionPunk, Outset, Listen Labs, Conveo, Strella, Glaut, User Intuition and Koji. Each one asks your question, reads or listens to the answer, writes its own follow-up, and turns the transcripts into themes and quotes.

They split on price and on how they reach people. QuestionPunk and Koji publish a monthly price, and only QuestionPunk has a free plan. User Intuition charges per interview and gives 3 free. Conveo has free sign-up and a prepaid wallet. Outset sells through a demo. Listen Labs, Strella and Glaut don’t publish prices.

The tools

  1. 1. QuestionPunk

    Best for
Running AI interviews this week at a price you can see, alongside ordinary survey questions in the same study.
    Price
The Free plan needs no card and includes up to 5,000 AI text follow-ups a month on the standard models. Pro is $29 a month or $290 a year. Voice interviews and analysis use AI credits: 3,000 a month on Free and 25,000 on Pro, at 1,000 credits to the dollar. On the default settings a voice interview uses about 54 credits a minute, so Free covers about 55 minutes of voice a month and Pro about 460.
    How it interviews
By text in 130+ languages or by voice in 25, from one link. Text follow-ups stop after a set number (0 to 10), when the AI judges it has enough, or after a set time. Voice interviews run for a set time, from 1 minute to 4 hours. You pick the interviewer’s model (3 on Free, every model we offer on Pro) and can read the full prompt behind it. It can record the participant’s audio or camera and ask them to share their screen.
    Recruiting
Share a link or embed, or recruit through a third-party panel, up to 10,000 participants per study.
    Analysis
Themes and quotes. Every quote in a report is checked against the participant’s actual answer and dropped if it doesn’t match. Reports export as PDF or Word, and responses as Excel or CSV.
    What to watch
Voice covers 25 languages, fewer than most tools here. There’s no panel of our own. The interviewer talks by text or voice, with an optional animated avatar on voice.
  2. 2. Outset

    Best for
Enterprise research teams that want video and voice-to-voice interviews.
    Price
Custom, through a demo. No free plan is listed. You can try a demo interview on its site.
    How it interviews
Text, voice, video and voice-to-voice, in 40+ languages.
    Recruiting
    25+ panel integrations.
    What to watch
You can’t see a price before a sales call. Its MCP server lets your team launch studies and analyze results from other tools.
  3. 3. Listen Labs

    Best for
Brands that want recruiting from the vendor’s own network bundled with the interviews.
    Price
Its site doesn’t publish a price.
    How it interviews
Text, audio or video, with screen recording that works on mobile too. The voice interviewer speaks 42 languages.
    Recruiting
Its own network. The docs give 30M+ respondents and the home page 50M+.
    What to watch
    There’s no public price list.
  4. 4. Conveo

    Best for
Interviews where you want to see the participant’s face.
    Price
Its site doesn’t publish a price. You pay into a prepaid wallet, and you can sign up for free.
    How it interviews
Participants answer out loud, with the camera required, optional or off. You can turn on screen sharing for individual questions. 44 languages.
    Recruiting
    8 panel partners.
    What to watch
Interviews are spoken, so it isn’t the pick for typed answers.
  5. 5. Strella

    Best for
Teams that want to choose the AI models behind the moderator and use a bundled panel.
    Price
Its site doesn’t publish a price.
    How it interviews
Voice, with webcam and screen recording, plus a mobile app. 46+ languages. You can pick the language model and the speech providers.
    Recruiting
Its own panel, which it puts at “up to 8M”.
    What to watch
The site doesn’t say what it costs or whether you can sign up without a demo.
  6. 6. Glaut

    Best for
Market researchers who want open answers coded and cross-tabbed.
    Price
Its site doesn’t publish a price.
    How it interviews
Voice or typing, in 50+ languages.
    Recruiting
Works with whatever panel you already use.
    Analysis
    Coding, cross-tabs and reports.
    What to watch
Demo first. We found no MCP server.
  7. 7. User Intuition

    Best for
Paying per interview with no subscription.
    Price
$30 a voice interview with your own participants, $60 with its panel. Chat costs half that and video double. The first 3 interviews are free.
    How it interviews

    Recruiting
Its own panel, 4M+ people in 58 countries.
    What to watch
Cost scales with each interview: $30 each with your own participants.
  8. 8. Koji

    Best for
Small teams that want chat and voice interviews on a monthly plan.
    Price
    €29 a month for 29 credits. A chat interview uses 1 credit and a voice interview 3.
    How it interviews
Voice, chat or phone, in 30+ languages.
    Recruiting
Unnamed panel partners, or a link or embed.
    What to watch
Follow-ups are capped at 3 per question.

How we picked

We asked ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini, through their APIs, which tools run AI-moderated interviews, and started from the ones they named most in October 2026. We added our own and kept those whose own site says they run AI-moderated interviews. We left out Great Question, where AI moderation is an add-on to its Enterprise plan. Then we compared them on what a buyer can check: whether the price is published, whether you can start without a demo, how the interviewer talks to people, how many languages it covers, and where participants come from. Every figure above comes from the vendor’s own site on the date at the top of this page.

Which one to pick

  • You need video and voice-to-voice interviews: Outset.
  • You want recruiting bundled in: Listen Labs, Strella or User Intuition.
  • You want to see participants’ faces and screens: Conveo or Strella.
  • You want open answers coded and cross-tabbed: Glaut.
  • You want to pay per interview: User Intuition.
  • You want to start free, choose the model, and put interviews and survey questions in one study: QuestionPunk.

Questions

What is an AI-moderated interview?

A participant answers your question by text or voice, and an AI interviewer reads or listens to the answer and asks a follow-up of its own before moving on. Many people can take the same interview at once, with no scheduling.

Which AI interview tools have a free option?

QuestionPunk has a free plan with no card. Conveo lets you sign up for free and pay into a wallet. User Intuition gives 3 free interviews.

Which ones work with ChatGPT or Claude?

QuestionPunk, Outset, Listen Labs, Conveo, Strella, User Intuition and Koji each publish an MCP server or connector. We found none for Glaut.

How much do AI-moderated interviews cost?

Three of the eight publish prices. QuestionPunk is free to start, with Pro at $29 a month and voice paid in AI credits, about 54 a minute. User Intuition charges $30 a voice interview with your own participants. Koji is €29 a month for 29 credits. The other five don’t publish prices.
