Quotas and response limits
Control how many responses you collect per segment using quota targets.
Quotas let you set numeric caps on how many responses are accepted per answer option or URL parameter value. When a quota bucket is full, new respondents who match that bucket are terminated with an optional custom end screen.
Steps
- Open quota settingsIn the survey editor, open the quota management panel from the survey settings or logic section.
- Choose a quota sourceSelect the source for your quota: a question (e.g., a multiple choice question about gender or age group) or a URL parameter (embedded data passed in the survey link). Each quota has exactly one source.
- Set per-bucket targetsFor each answer option or parameter value, set a numeric target. For example, if your source is a gender question, you might set 50 for "Male" and 50 for "Female" to collect an even split.
- Configure the termination screen (optional)Choose a custom end screen to show respondents when their quota bucket is full. This lets you display a polite message explaining that you have enough responses from their group.
- Enable and monitorEnable the quota and publish your survey. As responses come in, bucket counts are tracked automatically. When a bucket reaches its target, new respondents matching that bucket are terminated.
Quotas ensure balanced representation in your sample. Set per-option targets on a screening question, and QuestionPunk automatically stops accepting respondents once each segment is full.
Two quota source types are supported: question-based (tied to answer options on a multiple choice, dropdown, or similar question) and URL parameter-based (tied to values passed in the survey link, useful for panel provider routing).
Multiple quotas can be active on a single survey, each with its own source and targets. This lets you control for multiple demographic dimensions simultaneously.
When a respondent fills the last slot in a bucket, they complete normally. Subsequent respondents matching that bucket are terminated and shown the configured end screen.
Combine quotas with Prolific or other panel providers to precisely control the demographic composition of your sample.
