Every US bank and credit union office in one table, with 2015 to 2026 deposit history

FDIC bank offices and NCUA credit union offices in one schema, with Summary of Deposits history by branch and year. 12 tables, about 1.2 million rows.

Coverage: About 100,000 offices: about 78,000 bank offices and 23,000 credit union offices. About 28,000 FDIC-insured institutions, about 4,200 of them active. About 4,300 federally insured credit unions from the 2026-06-30 call report cycle, with about 147 million members and $2.5 trillion in assets. About 1 million branch-year deposit rows from the Summary of Deposits, 2015 through 2026.

Why pay for public data

The NCUA publishes its branch file inside the quarterly call report as a fixed-width text drop that lines up with nothing else. This package parses it, matches each office to a county and a metro area, and puts credit union offices in the same table and the same columns as bank offices, so one query counts both.

How it is built

  1. 1

Pull institution and office records from the FDIC BankFind API, the Summary of Deposits surveys for 2015 to 2026, and the NCUA quarterly call report.

  2. 2

Normalize both agencies into one office table, join county FIPS, CBSA, service type and bank class lookups, and keep agency coordinates as published. Nothing is geocoded.

  3. 3

Drop every column that names a person or carries a personal contact detail, suppress the handful of credit union sites registered at private homes, and rebuild each quarter.

Questions

Is this data not free from the government?
Yes. The source files are public and we link to them. You pay for the cleaning, the joins, the documented schema and the refresh, not for the data itself.
How is it delivered?
As Parquet or CSV files, by download link or to your own cloud bucket. The same tables load into Snowflake with the scripts we include. A Snowflake Marketplace listing is being set up and is not live yet.
Can I see the data before paying?
Yes. The Vermont slice is open: about 330 offices, a dozen or so credit unions, about 80 FDIC institutions and about 3,000 deposit rows, with the lookups and the data dictionary fully visible, so every sample query runs before you buy.
Is FDIC data also free on Snowflake?
Yes. The FDIC and the NCUA publish these files free, and the free public data listings on Snowflake Marketplace carry FDIC branch locations, Summary of Deposits and institution tables. Compare them before you buy. What they do not carry is the NCUA credit union side, which is why this package puts both in one table.
Does it include any personal data?
No. Columns that name a person or carry a personal contact detail are dropped at build time, a holding company name that is a person is withheld, and the few credit union sites registered at private homes have their address, phone and hours suppressed.
What is missing?
The NCUA does not publish deposits by branch, so branch-year deposits cover banks only. Summary of Deposits starts at 2015 here. A small number of credit union offices have no unique county match, and those rows say so rather than guessing.
What is the license?
The sources are US government works from the FDIC and the NCUA. This product uses FDIC and NCUA data but is not endorsed or certified by either agency.
